Overview

Qazvin is the largest city in the province of Qazvin. It was the capital of the country for over 40 years in Safavid dynasty and recently is known as the capital of calligraphy in Iran.

It is thought that the city today known as Qazvin have been founded by Shapur II, King of Persia in 250 CE, under the name Shad Shahpur (shad means ‘happy’), when he built a fortification there to control regional tensions.

Brief Itinerary

pick up Early morning at 7:00 am. Travel to the city of Qazvin, 145 km far from Tehran which it takes about 2:30 hours to get there. Qazvin is the largest city in the province of Qazvin. It was the capital of the country for over 40 years in Safavid dynasty.

We will visit highlights of Qazvin like: Chehelsotun palace, Qazvin Grand bazar and Caravanserai of Sa’d Al-Saltaneh, the holy shrine of Shahzadeh Hossein.

We will have a traditional lunch in a fine local restaurant. We will back late afternoon to Tehran.

Chehelsotun palace is the only palace remained from Shah Tahmaseb period. it was known as Kolah Farangi pavilion when Qazvin was the capital of the country in Safavid era.

Qazvin Grand bazar is one of the most beautiful traditional trade centers in Iran which dates back to 1000 years ago. the bazar was developed during Safavid dynasty and each part was belonged to a specific industry and business. In the passage of each bazar, there was bath, mosque, timche and qeysarieh. Timche was trade center for merchants and qeysarieh was for artisans and craftsmen. (in weekend and public holidays it will be closed)

Caravanserai of Sa’d al-Saltaneh is a large preserved caravanserai and trade center inside the bazar which was built in Qajar era, Nasser al-din Shah time.  it is an urban caravanserai and the biggest covered one in Iran. (in weekend and public holidays it will be closed as it is inside the bazar)

Jameh Mosque is one of the oldest and largest mosques in Iran. Like many other Jameh mosques, it was built on top of fire temple of Sassanid era by command of Haroon Al-Rashid.

Tehran Gate is the ancient gate in the south east of the city of Qazvin on Tehran-Qazvin road and protected the city against the thieves’ attacks.

Holy shrine of Shahzadeh Hossein is the son of Imam Reza.
