Abarkuh
Abarkuh, also known as Abarkooh, Abarghoo, or Abarqu is a city located in Yazd province and home to the 3rd longest living tree in the world. “Cypress of Abarkuh” in Persian “Sarv-e Abarkuh” also known as the Zoroastrian Sarv is one of the amazing highlights of Iran destinations. There is a legend about this tree and it is said that Zoroaster, an Iranian prophet planted this tree. It is difficult to determine the exact age of this cypress but according to estimations, it is aged between 4000 to 4500 years. Cypress of Abarkuh is the oldest living heritage of Iran which has a deep root in the culture and civilization of Iran.
It stands at 25-28 meters high with an 11.5 meters’ width which is registered as the 3rd National heritage site of Iran in 2007and, unfortunately, is still on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Aghazadeh mansion with its marvelous architecture and unique wind-catchers is one of the valuable attractions located in Abarkuh and attractive Iran destinations. It was built in Qajar dynasty. Aghazadeh mansion contains of a main chamber, a foyer, 2 wind-catchers and balconies. The main wind-catcher is 18 meters high and contains 19 air- adjusting vent which are connected to the second wind-catcher and can adjust air even when no wind blows.
Jame mosque of Abarkuh was built in Timurid dynasty in 14th Century but some parts of the building supposed to be built in Seljuk period. The simple exterior design is with mud and straw which recalls the architectural style of Timurid dynasty. Jame mosque of Abarkuh has 2 levels and an open-plan dome chamber which is too small for functions of mosque but it is supposed to be a small covered Shabestan for Seljuk dynasty or even earlier time.
Abarkuh Ice House is one the mysterious attractions of Iran destinations. There are 4 adobe Ice House in Abarkuh dating back to Qajar dynasty. The function of Ice House is as storage for ice and food throughout the year avoiding of spoiling and keeping the edible foods cool and fresh. Ice House is an ancient bricked building which was used before the invention of refrigerator in ancient time.
